Voices of the Rainforest – Voices of the Rainforest celebrates the living chorus of Southeast Alaska’s wild.
In Southeast Alaska, every voice tells part of the same story. The returning salmon carry the sea into the forest, nourishing bears and eagles, and people alike. Whales and seals thrive offshore, while towering spruce and hemlock rise from soil enriched by generations of salmon runs. This gallery celebrates the interconnected chorus of the rainforest – land sea, and sky bound together in a cycle of life as timeless as the tides.

Bears – Keepers of the River
Along Alaska’s streams, coastal brown bears thrive on salmon runs, feeding themselves and fertilizing the forest as they drag fish to the banks. Their survival ensures balance across the rainforest
-

Eagles – Sentinels of the Sky
Bald eagles gather along rivers and shorelines, their cries echoing through the trees. Like the bears, they depend on the salmon to endure.
-

Whales and Seals – Voices of the Seas
From bubble netting humpbacks to seals darting among the salmon entering the streams, the oceans life is tied directly to the rivers and the salmon that begin their journey there.

Anan Family Portrait
At Anan Creek, a black bear mother tends to her young cub with a mix of patience and tenderness.
The cub waits high in a tree—watching, calling softly—while its mother fishes below and later pauses to nurse.
This intimate series captures four moments of the cub perched safely above, trusting its mother’s return with lunch. -

2026 Brown Bear Calendar
For the 5th year running, I’m sharing my love for Southeast Alaska’s wild places through this beautiful 12×18 calendar — printed on pearl paper by MPIX and designed so each month can be framed as art at year’s end.
Each image carries a story from time spent with these incredible bears here in the Tongass National Forest.
